Macrolane Breast and Body Shaping

Macrolane Breast and Body Shaping

Background

Macrolane was launched in 2000 in Sweden by Q-Med.  The company also manucfactures the facial filler Restylane.  This has been on the market for 10-15 years now and has a very good safety profile.  The products are very similar, but different molecular sizes as one uses more volume of the Macrolane.  They are both hyaluronic acids which is a substance found naturally in skin and connective tissue.  As the company uses its NASHA (non-animal) technology the product is very non-allergenic and the side effect or risk profile is very re-assuring and safe.

Macrolane is very versatile in that it can be used in many parts of the body that need enhancing, reshaping or contouring.  Most commonly it is used in the breasts, buttocks and calves, but is also starting to be used in male penile enhancements.  There are no hard and fast rules as to how much needs to be injected.  It is completely up to the client to decide.  Generally the amounts start from 100ml upwards and the product is licensed for 150ml per breast.  150ml will increase the breast size by about 1 to 1 and a half cup sizes depending on how much breast tissue there is to start off with.

The Procedure

One little skin nick is made under each breast and a cannula is used to inject the product under the breast tissue after it has been numbed with the local anaesthetic.  The fact that theprocedure is done under local anaesthetic makes it completely patient guided. I find this part of the procedure brilliant as the client can sit up and look in the mirror and guide me as to where they would like more product or enhancing.  This makes the procedure very interactive between the doctor and the patient.  The results are seen instantly as the product is injected.  Generally the procedure will take about 45minutes and the client can pretty much go back to work or home.

After Care

The chest will feel a little stiff and achy for a week or so.  This can vary depending on your threshold to discomfort.  Most clients get back to normal daily routine within 24 hours.  You should wear a support/sports bra for up to 2 weeks for comfort and support.  Chest exercises should be avoided for about 2 weeks and just really being sensible about carrying on with normal routine.

Results

The result lasts for 12-18months on average.  After a year you may notice a change in size.  This occurs over a gradual period and not from one day to the next.  At this stage you may want a top-up.  It is not a requirement or necessity and you may decide to wait til most of the product has disappeared which can be between 2-3 years.

Cost

Prices vary from around £2300 for the 200ml volume to £3500 for the 300ml volume.
